Sinn launches limited edition U1 DS watch

2021 marks the 60th anniversary of German tool watch brand Sinn, and the brand has planned a year of unique novelties to celebrate the occasion. For the first entry in this planned series, Sinn returns to its robust and functional U1 diving line with a unique dial variant in its German submarine steel material. The new limited edition Sinn U1 DS combines the brand’s core design philosophies with an aggressive, weathered new look that underlines Sinn’s definitive toughness.

The 44mm German submarine steel case of the Sinn U1 DS follows the same rounded utility pattern as the regular production models, with a deep, uniform gray tone in the initial images. The screw-down crown at 4 o’clock, tall case sides, short, wide lugs, and the unique shallow scalloped diving bezel are all present here, providing a more tool-oriented perspective on dive watch tails than many. its competitors. The unidirectional bezel without insert features a fully engraved diving scale, keeping readability at the forefront with white and black paint. The entire case is hardened with Sinn’s proprietary TEGIMENT technology, adding superior scratch resistance to the endemic corrosion resistance and magnetic properties of the brand’s German submarine steel alloy. The water resistance rises to a huge 1000 meters.

Of course, the biggest addition to Formula U1 with the Sinn U1 DS is the truly one-of-a-kind dial finish. The steel dial of each individual model is engraved with a pattern of irregular stripes, resembling initial images like the work of an aggressive orbital sander or wire brush wheel, revealing a range of tones from the shiny brushed steel to a deep bronze gray in various areas of the dial. Due to the chaotic nature of this process, no two dials in the series are alike, with each model featuring different patterns and tones. The dial layout itself is a monochrome version of the square syringe hands and printed indexes of the standard U1, eliminating the vibrant red accents on the hands in favor of a more subtle black treatment. This darker, less colorful approach fits perfectly with the industrial feel of the striped dial in the initial images, delivering a darker look without sacrificing readability.

Sinn powers the U1 DS with the venerable Sellita SW 200-1 automatic movement. The SW 200-1 has appeared in countless watches over the years, and its performance remains reliable with a 38-hour power reserve at a rate of 28,800 bph. The Sinn U1 DS can be paired with a variety of strap options. First, the brand’s substantial rounded H-link bracelet in steel, echoing the rounded design language of the case. For those who prefer a smoother wrist feel, the U1 DS is also available with the Sinn signature silicone rubber strap in black or white.

While retaining the central look of the U1 line, the limited edition Sinn U1 DS adds a battle-hardened shine that celebrates both the brand’s 60-year heritage in tool watches and its current expertise in durable steel alloys and case hardening. Only 500 units of the Sinn U1 DS will be available, available now from authorized dealers at an MSRP starting at $ 2,780. For more details, please visit the brand’s website.
