Lake County Music Guide 4.28.22 – The Bloom

I watched The Bee Gees special on PBS the other night. When it comes to vocal harmonies, they rank among the best; Everly Bros, Beach Boys, Beatles, Hollies and CSN, to name a few – pretty much top shelf… Even if you knock out all of their Disco-era hits, they still have a fairly extensive musical catalog, all written by the band. In a career that spanned the better part of seven decades, they racked up seventeen No. 1 hits in the United States alone. Very good stuff, Maynard… Anyway, we also have some pretty awesome music this week in The LC and Mendo Co. Here’s the live music schedule for the week of 4/28-5/2…

Every Monday night, why not take a step up the mountain and see Kim Thomas play the piano at Adams Springs Golf Course from 7-9pm. I guarantee you will be delighted, delighted and impressed…

Sunday at Kelsey Creek Brewing, the joint will pop when Dave Broida and Blues Farm lay the 1,4,5 from 2-5 p.m. You don’t want to miss it!

Thursdays from 6-9pm at the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville, you’ll find a great menu, full bar and great rock music from Beatz Werkin’. They may not know how to spell, but they sure know how to RAWK! And on Sunday morning the SSPH will bring you the LC Diamonds (Trio?) Unplugged from 10 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Quite a good musical journey for a most delectable brunch. Reservations are recommended for both shows.

Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville is happy to bring back Friday nights, by popular demand, Red’s Blues from 6:30-9:30 p.m. This Sacramento Blues-based combo has always been a crowd-pleaser here in Lake County. On Sunday, the Open Jam with Margo & Friends runs from 2-5 p.m. All musicians and performers are welcome.

Twin Pine Casino in Middletown will feature 80s music from the Mike Furlong Band on Friday and Saturday nights from 9am-1pm. Mike Furlong also leads a Tom Petty tribute band, so you can guess which tracks he’ll be playing…

The Robinson Rancheria Lounge in Nice will offer a great evening of Classic Rock music by Les Voyageurs du Temps on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. On Saturday night Lake County Royalty, Twice as Good will deliver a majestic performance from 9am to 1am. WOW! Double T’s and 2xG – it’s going to be a great weekend at the Lounge!

It’s right in… The Red’s Blues are at Adam Springs Golf Course Saturday from 2-5 p.m.

On Saturdays at The Spot in Clearlake, you’ll find The Mark Weston Band from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. It should be a perfect day to dine by the lake and enjoy great music from a veteran LC performer while admiring the great views. Food and a full bar are all waiting for you.

O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport will feature the eclectic musical styles of The Hip Replacements from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the excellent O’Bros beers and craft beers, as well as their delicious dinners. It’s the perfect place for a date and the Hip Reps are the perfect band…

There’s a lot going on this weekend at the Riviera Hills Lounge on the Riviera. First up, Saturday, these wacky, wacky, wacky Fargo Bros will be rocking the Riv from 6-10am. If you want to dance, this is the place to be. Sunday night, the 1st Sunday Open Jam returns to The Riv with another display of the kind of talent that can be found here at The LC, all from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This continuation of the Cobb Mtn Jams tradition is back, better than ever and creating a legend that put Lake County on the map. Not only will you find some of the best musicians Lake County has to offer, but there could be contenders from as far away as Sacramento, Sonoma, Napa and Marin. Apart from finding a place, you will not be disappointed…

On Sundays from noon to 2:00 a.m., the 1st Sunday Fiddler’s Jam will recur at the Ely Stage Stop on Soda Bay Rd on the Riviera. Lake County’s music scene isn’t limited to rock, blues, metal, rap and jazz – but there are some great bluegrass pickers who would love to bring that local music to you – and the 1st Sunday Fiddler’s Jam is the perfect place! Some of the best pickers for miles around are part of this jam. Fun for the whole family, and with their museum, lots of information on Lake County history.

There are good things coming from the Blue Wing Saloon this weekend; On Fridays, come and discover delicious torch ballads, blues standards and other popular music of yesteryear when the Majide Trio take the stage from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The joke about “These are tough times…” can’t be better explained by offering an example of the music of Jeff Massanari, which plays Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m. THIS GUY IS SO GOOD!… The Trio Will Siegel will enhance your brunch pleasure during the Sunday Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday Supper will feature Wendy DeWitt and Kirk Harwood’s over-the-top performance from 6-8 a.m. I wish I could see her! Monday Blues will offer an encore of Wendy and Kirk and their band from 6-9 p.m. I will definitely try to do this one… It’s a good idea to make reservations for all shows.

Mendocino County

The Ukiah Brewing Co always has a pretty packed schedule, starting Tuesday when Bruce Halbohn takes the stage from 6:30 a.m. On Thursday evenings, Wolf Tree plays from 6:30 p.m. Flamenco maestro Jason Wright blasts his way through a spectacular performance Friday night starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, come and discover Megan Miller and the Meta, from 7:00 am.

Rivino Winery, which really seems to be on the cutting edge of the music scene these days, has Easy Street Friday afternoons starting at 4:00. I’ve heard good things about this band… On Saturday, find Wags and Wine, (a big name) performing at 12:00.

In Hopland on Saturday, the annual Hopland Fire BBQ will host its annual benefit for those who have lost so much by hosting an event starting at 5:00 a.m. and featuring a great band, Sonoma County’s own Blues Defenders. Great cause, great event, great group. The location is at 21 Feliz Creek, Hopland. Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for under 18s.

On Saturday night, The Sports Attic II in Ukiah will feature Blues Styles by TC Culp and Blue Reptiles starting around 6:00. Yours truly will be playing guitar that night. Nice place, good food and a full bar. Plenty of room to dance. Hey, Ukiah – get out there and support your local live music! You will not regret it…

On Sunday evening, the Willits Center for the Arts will present the music of Pierre Bensusan from 7:00 p.m. The rewards alone should be enough to make you want to check this guy out! His good fides are off the charts! I’m just a boring old rocker, but I wish I could play what this guy does. If I wasn’t playing that day, I would be here…

Hey folks, even if live music isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other events happening at LC that you might be interested in; The Brick in Kelseyville celebrates Mary’s birthday with a barbecue party on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. How funny!?! Additionally, at Redbud Park, there is a West Division Toyota Fishing Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So there’s something for everyone this week! Why not turn off the TV and radio, disconnect your computer, then get out and see all the things life is worth living for. For those of you who are up for the challenge, get outside, have fun, but be careful… For those who do, here’s my toast: Health to those I love, wealth to those who love me.

Mike Garniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for over 40 years. He paid his dues into a strong Sonoma County music scene in the 80s and 90s, then DJed for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his 26-year job , because he recognized a growing local music. stage, he decided to dedicate his time to performing live music again. He never looked back. With his regular band, Dr. Groove, he played lead guitar for local bands (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, CAM Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travellers). He has played acoustic guitar at some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers markets and art galleries. He is also a semi-regular supporting various local open mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has also recorded original demos for other performers. For the past three years, he has posted a local music guide on Facebook called Lake County Music Guide.
