Lake County Music Guide 2.24.22 – The Bloom

At four weeks from spring, winter finally announces its presence with authority. It’s going to be pretty chilly over the next few days, especially at night when temperatures are expected to be in the 20s. Holy Guacamole, Batman! I have to remove the extra blanket and thermal underwear from the cedar trunk. But there’s a silver lining – we’ll have just enough live music to keep us all warm for most of these days. So, as we all prepare for March, here’s the music guide for the week of 2/24-2/28…

The Hip Replacements will heat up the Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville on Friday nights from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Enjoy a glass or bottle of local wine, in good company, then dance to the Hip Reps. Righty-oh!

On Sundays, get ready to jam when Sunday Jams with Margo and Friends heat up the joint from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All musicians are welcome. The Robinson Rancheria Lounge in Nice will feature local singer/songwriter, John Paul Hodge on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You won’t find a more soulful voice to warm your spirits…Go see what I mean.

On Saturday nights, Redding’s hot country band, The Lance Michael Cornwell Band, will give you your country USRDA favorites from 9am to 1am. Check out his videos on Youtube…

Coyote Valley Casino in Redwood Valley will feature music by Agarron de Bandas on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Sera muy caliente, Amigas!

On Saturday and Sunday, why not drive to the Capay valley where the 117th almond festival takes place in several establishments in the valley. How funny! Live music will include The Truckaderos, The Hey-Nows and Fryed Bros. Best look it up for more info. It should be a hot period!

The American Legion Hall in Clearlake will host a Mardi Gras festival on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will feature the music of Gloria Scott (she’s smoking hot!), with her all-star band featuring some of the hottest musicians of Mendo/Lake County areas. There will be games, crafts, food, a costume and mask contest, children’s activities and dancing. The parade begins at 2:00 p.m. with the Lower Lake High Drumline led by Ryan Gymnaites, followed by a festive mask parade. Music starts at 5:00 a.m. The cost is $20, but well worth it.

Let the good times roll! The Mardi Gras Festival is a fundraiser for the Children’s Museum of Art and Science of Clearlake. Tom Drinnon will perform at O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport on Saturday from 6-9 a.m. Enjoy a great meal, one of the excellent O’Bros beers or craft beers, then relax with great music. Warms the soul!…

It’ll be trippy glasses, bell bottoms and tie-dye shirts all night Saturday when the Groovy Judy Band bring hot, psychoramic music to Riviera Hills Lounge at the Riviera from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Partake in a great meal, a sublime sunset, libations from a full bar, then generate the heat you so desperately need as you dance the night away. Phew! It’ll be hot ! Richmond Park in the Bay Riviera will feature the hot music of Howard Reggie Dockens from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Blue Wing Saloon always brings some pretty hot music, and its weekend is no different. Friday night is perfect for a meal, a cocktail, and then warming up to the delicious music of the Majide Trio from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night brings us Chris Forshay’s guitar and song from 6-8am, all for your viewing pleasure. Sunday brunch will feature our favorite guys playing jazz, The Jazz Guys from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday Supper will bring us guitarist Paul Farley from 6-8pm. Monday Blues will kick off a pre-Mardi Gras party featuring the wild Cajun accordion music of The Alligator from 6-9pm. It’s always a good idea to make reservations for one of these shows…

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for over 40 years. He paid his dues into a strong Sonoma County music scene in the 80s and 90s, then DJed for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his 26-year job , because he recognized a growing local music. stage, he decided to dedicate his time to performing live music again. He never looked back. With his regular band, Dr. Groove, he played lead guitar for local bands (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, CAM Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travellers). He has played acoustic guitar at some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers markets and art galleries. He is also a semi-regular supporting various local open mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has also recorded original demos for other performers. For the past three years, he has posted a local music guide on Facebook called Lake County Music Guide.
