Kevin Campbell claims Everton would sell Jordan Pickford to United

Questions are being asked about David de Gea’s place in the squad and they are expected to stick around for the rest of the season.

Several goalkeepers have been linked with a summer move to Manchester United. In Spain, a report has suggested Jan Oblak could move to Old Trafford with De Gea returning to Atletico Madrid.

Elsewhere, there are suggestions that Everton’s Jordan Pickford is being targeted as a potential replacement.

Now former Everton star Kevin Campbell has weighed in on the debate and believes United have a good chance of signing England’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Campbell told Goodison News: “He’s an experienced goalkeeper now, so taking out the stupidity and stuff like that has made him a better all-around goalkeeper, and you can see he is. He’s got a little injury at the moment, so I hope he comes back, but he’s been excellent. And it wouldn’t surprise me if Man United wanted him. It wouldn’t surprise me because he’s very good. He’s very good with his feet. Passing , his range is ridiculous, and he’s a damn good keeper, he’s England’s number one, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were interested. Now I think the bottom line comes down to the player If the player wanted to go to Manchester United, I’m sure Frank Lampard [could find a replacement]. There are plenty of good goalkeepers. There’s a lot. So I don’t think Everton would stand in his way, especially if the money is right.

Stretty News Verdict

Jordan Pickford wouldn’t be my first choice to replace De Gea.

The Everton stopper may be better in distribution and getting off his line, but I have a feeling he won’t come cheap in the market.

I would rather see United sign someone like Diogo Costa. Not just a modern keeper, but he’s 23, with a high ceiling for development.
