Owen Hargreaves has shared that Richarlison is “perfect” for Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Conte, but he needs to find a way to start his summer by signing a lot more.
Spurs recorded a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Saturday, with Richarlison starting his first game since his record transfer to north London and Hargreaves suggested if Conte could switch to a ‘4-4-2’ in order to bring in all his attackers. .
It looks like Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski are Tottenham’s top three picks right now.
But could Richarlison kick down that door in the next few weeks as his minutes continue to pile up? Well, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he started for Spurs against Marseille in the Champions League tonight or against Manchester City this weekend.
Either way, Conte is now starting to turn given the buildup of games to come and this is an opportunity for these substitute players to cement their place in the XI.
Nonetheless, after Richarlison recently got his first start against Fulham free-scorer Marco Silva, Hargreaves liked what he saw from the former Everton player, as he told Premier League Productions.
“I think he’s perfect for them,” Hargreaves said. “He’s such a good player. It’s just about trying to find a way to get him into the side.
“The problem is with Kulusevski, Son and Kane, it’s tough. Maybe change the form? Maybe do 4-4-2? I think of all those attacking players. I think Tottenham could have a good shot.
“But Kane and Richarlison, I love seeing them go forward.”
KULUSEVSKI OR RICHARLISON?
This will likely be the battle for much of the season as no one will dethrone Harry Kane or Son Heung-min from the XI, regardless of their form.
Yes, there will come a time when the duo will need a rest and they will be rotated, but right now it’s either Richarlison or Kulusevski playing alongside the record-breaking duo.
It looks like Conte still has his January catch ahead of Richarlison, although that’s why he brought in the Brazil international, so he can create that much-needed competition.
From his appearance on the bench against Nottingham Forest to his final start, the more minutes Richarlison plays the hotter his engine heats up and it wouldn’t be surprising if he were a regular starter sooner rather than later.
