Director Arun Matheswaran Explains Why He Chose To Cast Keerthy Suresh In ‘Saani Kaayidham’

Chennai, April 27 (IANS): Director Arun Matheswaran said he chose to cast Keerthy Suresh in the lead role of his highly anticipated film ‘Saani Kaayidham’ after seeing his performance in ‘Mahanati’.

The director, who is back with ‘Saani Kaayidham’ after surprising everyone with a firecracker from a first film called ‘Rocky’, said: “I watched ‘Mahanati’ and loved the performance of Keerthy Suresh in the movie. So I had him in my mind for ‘Saani Kaayidham’.

“Also, the role she’s playing in my movie is a character she’s never played before. So I thought she would be the right choice, bringing a breath of fresh air with a certain savagery. She was the first choice and I’m glad she came on board.”

Not only did the director take a leap of faith with his leading lady, but he was also pretty confident about who he wanted to play his brother. Veteran director Selvaraghavan, who is also actor Dhanush’s older brother, played the role in the film.

Says Arun, “Selva Sir is a big name in the industry and a well-known director. I thought it would be a crazy option to cast him.”

Revealing his thoughts while approaching the director to star in ‘Saani Kaayidham’, Arun says, “Siddharth (creative producer) is a close friend of Selva sir. So it was easy to approach him. Everyone had their apprehensions since he hadn’t done any movies before and he wasn’t interested in. But I just wanted to give it a shot, so I met him and told the story and he loved it.

Continuing on his experience as a director, Arun adds, “I saw him as a director and I was skeptical if he would make any suggestions or if we were going into a tricky area where we wouldn’t understand each other, but nothing like that. like. He trusted me completely.

Produced under the Screen Scene Media Entertainment banner, “Saani Kaayidham” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on May 6. The movie will also be available as ‘Chinni’ in Telugu and ‘Saani Kaayidham’ in Malayalam.
