Destiny 2’s Season of the Risen comes with a Seasonal Artifact that players can use to remove Savathun’s Lucent Brood abilities.
There is a tendency for Destiny 2Expansions and Seasons often bring interesting changes to the game’s tested mechanics, such as the introduction of Seasonal Artifacts and Champion Mods. These were just the basics of something that Bungie worked on even more over the following seasons, always trying to keep each mod pool fresh and making each artifact feel unique in some way. Season of the Splicer and Season of the Lost brought some very interesting mods that radically reshaped Destiny 2‘s meta in many ways, even making some exotic subclasses and options irrelevant.
Today, Bungie’s new ViDoc, called Light in the Darkness, began shedding light on what The Witch Queen expansion entails, aside from Savathun’s Lucent Brood and his Throne World. There was also plenty of gameplay footage, showing off more of the Void 3.0 redesign from Destiny 2, as well as the new exotic weapons and armor that come with The Witch Queen. Still, there was a little something that could easily be missed in the video, and that’s the fact that players will be able to wield the Season 16 Artifact.
Destiny 2Season of the Risen builds on some of the concepts introduced in Season of the Chosen, with the Cabal Psions’ light-suppressing technology gifted by Caiatl to humanity to ward off Savathun’s Hive Lightbringers. The Season of the Risen Artifact looks a lot like a spear, not too dissimilar to the Titan’s Diamond Spear or even Rasputin’s Valkyrie Spears from the Warmind DLC. It turns out that players will be able to wield this new artifact for the first time and defeat enemies with it in normal gameplay.
Although the details of this are still unknown, the images included in Destiny 2The new ViDoc shows a Guardian wielding the artifact and using it to fight the Hive. Considering Season of the Risen seems to be all about removing the Lucent Brood, this Arc-themed artifact could include some abilities allowing players to interrupt enemy Supers when they damage them, possibly having additional functions if they are combined with swords or seasonal mods.
It is not clear if Destiny 2The recently announced Season of the Risen will allow players to wield the Seasonal Artifact outside of story missions and The Witch Queen campaign, but it’s likely her abilities will primarily be used to fight the Hive. Savathun’s Lucent Brood is going to be a major challenge for many players, but being able to remove their signature moves could make encounters less scary.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
