Battlefield 2042 update 4.0 is coming next week with over 400 bug fixes, but are there any players?

Battlefield 2042 was released not so long ago in November 2021. The mil-sim FPS developed by OF represents a legendary series with vast maps and fierce battles with tanks, helicopters and fighter jets, and how can we forget camping snipers. The game also introduced cross-platform play for the first time, allowing players on platforms like PC, Xbox and PS4/5 to be able to play together. Regardless of how the single-player campaign was stripped away with some critical gameplay changes, the game at launch was also riddled with bugs.

DICE continues to update Battlefield 2042 though, and it should be because the game is only 5 months old. Battlefield 2042 Community Manager Kevin Johnson tweeted a new upcoming 4.0 update for the game. The update brings over 400 changes including bug fixes and quality of life improvements and other game updates.

The Specialist, Rao and Paik, will get updated traits. Sundance is making some fixes to the grenade belt with better near armour-piercing target acquisition. Ribbons are also getting some tweaks allowing for easier unlocking in game modes like Rush. XP for Support Actions and Team Play gets some balance to ensure “teamwork remains king,” he said.

The update also shows some love for vehicles, vehicular warfare gets some balance, especially the Bolte, “to make sure the infantry/vehicle counter game still has some bite to it,” says Johnson. . Does this mean the vehicles in the game are nerfed? We will have to wait and see.

Weapon attachments are overhauled in this 4.0 update, “with a focus on ensuring they feel unique and impact your loadout choice and shooter,” Johnson maintains. The full changelog is expected to be released with the update next week, as the official release date has not been announced.

Although the 4.0 update is welcome, the game itself is almost dead in the space of 5 months since its launch. Even with cross-platform play enabled, finding an active session easily takes 15-30 minutes on PS5, sometimes even longer, while custom servers are available, the number is far lower than in Battlefield 4 today. A game released in 2013.

According to SteamCharts at the time of writing this article (14and April) 925 people play the game on PC, and you can also add the same number of players on consoles, because it’s hard to get your hands on the PS5 anyway and the same goes for the Xbox Series X|S . In the first month of Battlefield 2042’s release (November 2021), the game had an all-time high of 100,590 concurrent players, and by the end of its first 30 days it had dropped to an average of 29,262.

We hope the DICE devs listen to players and include the must-haves Voice chat and leaderboard at the end of the round in the 4.0 update. Will these changes bring players back?, that’s something we’ll have to wait and see.
