April is Autism Awareness Month and the Southaven Arts Council is pleased to exhibit works by artists who participate in the Little House Art Project, sponsored by The Arc Northwest Mississippi. Opening on Thursday, April 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the MR Davis Southaven Public Library.
Arc Northwest Mississippi is an advocacy organization for people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We create educational programs and events that bring the special needs community together with their normally functioning peers in a fun, friendly environment of love and understanding. Additionally, The Arc NWMS helps families find services, programs, and information to help their loved ones with disabilities live healthy, fulfilling, and fulfilling lives.
Little House Art Project began as an idea born out of an art program for children with special needs… But why stop at artistically gifted teens with special needs? Many young adults yearn for art education. La Petite Maison is an opportunity for teenagers and young adults to learn about the fundamentals of art. People with special needs sit right next to their normally functioning friends. Vicky Neyman, local artist and special needs advocate, leads the arts education class and arranges for special artist clinicians.
