Alia Bhatt Says OTT Was Her First Choice To Release ‘Darlings’

Actor Alia Bhatt has also become a producer with “Darlings” which began streaming on Netflix from August 5. The black comedy was directed by a newbie and also features Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah in the lead. Talking about why she opted for an OTT release for her first production, Alia said, “It wasn’t something we discussed during the pandemic.”

She further told India Today that “In 2019, we all met about Darlings, that’s where the first talks started. Then in 2020, the world went into lockdown, but right from the start, we said it was that kind of movie. which on a platform like Netflix will be very good, for various reasons. On Day 1 itself, you reach over 190 countries, so who wouldn’t want that reach? As we all know the world has become a very small place thanks to content being on OTT.We are consuming content in all languages - Korean, Spanish, South Indian etc. This is something that has become very easily accessible now. We don’t have to fly or go to film festivals, it’s just a unique way to consume content.”

Alia also feels that “Darlings is not some sort of large-scale, larger-than-life show”

“…it’s an intimate and complex story of all these characters, their lives and their journeys. So it doesn’t matter where you watch it as long as you watch it. A movie like Gangubai (Kathiawadi) you had to consume this movie in the theater first because it was the style it was just a show But, Darlings is not that kind of movie I’m not saying that negatively I’m just saying it’s a watch intimate. So I don’t mind watching it on my own. We’re very happy that it’s coming out on a platform like Netflix,” she said.

“Darlings” follows the lives of two women as they find courage and love in extraordinary circumstances and has received mixed reviews so far.
